Hi there. Long-time reader, first-time commenter. Here's a book that's just come out this month. It's about Americans, but I thought I'd pimp it anyway since the author teaches at my school and is a brilliant person: Mr. and Mrs. Prince: How an Extraordinary 18th-Century Family Moved out of Slavery and into Legend (http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Mrs-Prince-Extraordinary-Eighteenth-Century/dp/0060510730) by Gretchen Gerzina. She also wrote Black London: Life Before Emancipation, (published in the UK as Black England) about 18th/early 19th century multiethnicity of England.
