Heh. I am reading Genesis for religious reasons, although not the one you suggest. I hope to write a non-fiction book on Mesopotamian religious thought one day. But for now, I'm wildly unqualified, needing to get uncounted ANE texts under my belt first - Genesis included. None of the boring friends-locked postings you've missed have had anything to do with that distant ambition.
Oh, thank god. I had this morbid fear you were actually going to commit the ultimate fanfic no-no of putting the doctor into a jesus story. Sure, people like me would laugh ourselves sick, but I suspect most would be offended. Or something.
*looks a bit thoughtful*
You know there were hundreds of mesopotamian religions, right? While there were overall groups of relgions, each tribe usually had their own version with their own lesser gods. And of course, some secular law and religious law were the same thing, which makes the current (though sensible) public stance on church vs state a bit ironic. Well, a whole lot ironic. Good luck on it, though.
