Good news for us - my aunt and uncle have reported in and are safe and well. Apparently, they were on a tourist bus heading inland into the mountains when the tsunami struck. They - and we - are extremely lucky. My heart goes out to the families still waiting to hear, and those across this corner of the globe who've already had bad news.

Donate to provide provide safe water and other crucial supplies to victims of the earthquake at CARE Australia or the American Red Cross (or the Red Cross in your country, such as the British Red Cross and Canadian Red Cross). Thanks everyone!

ETA: In Australia, Oxfam and Unicef are also on the ball.

Glad to hear your aunt and uncle are safe.
We've been watching news reports on the tsunami since the news came through. Heart wrenching.

I'm relieved, too. So far I've been lucky enough not to have lost anyone I know.... I donated via the Australian Red Cross, as they're so much closer than any of the British charities - it's so awful that it's taken a week for aid to really start getting to the people who need it.
