Latest tsunami info - hotlines, travel info, charities.

Can't wrap my head around 120,000 dead. 2400 times the size of my family. Half the population of Babylon, bit less than half the population of Canberra. 0.12 MIPs (Millions of Innocent People). That number's only going to go up.

I was talking to Jon last night about doing a tiny fanzine - just four pages. Given some contribs, I could realistically produce such a thing and mail it out (or email it out) within the next two weeks. Would it be realistic to flog it as a tsunami relief fundraiser for, say, $AUD10 (about $8US or 4 pounds)? Who could write or draw something within the next week?

I can. What would you like?

[identity profile] motiveforce.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in, name your genre, word count and and format.

It is likely that people would pay this much.

[identity profile] dark-pheonix.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be happy to draw something. What did you have in mind?

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Fab! What do you do? Words? Pictures?

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm far better with words, so let's stick to that. :)

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Do me an Eighth Doctor suitable for half an A4 page - or three spot cartoons, small drawings suitable for padding out columns of text, about 4 cm by 4 cm. I need them by next Friday. Doable?

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Brilliant. 800 words on any topic of interest to fans (word length flexible due to time constaint - I'd need this by next Friday). Something on RPGs would be fine. If you like, suggest a few topix and we'll back-and-forth.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right then! 800 words on any topic of interest to fans (word count flexible due to time constraints - I'd need this by next Friday). If you like, suggest some possible topics first.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fiction or non-fiction preferred? I'll go off and give it a ponder tonight, and get back to you with some ideas.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Righto! Non-fiction, I think.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be a challenge, since I've been out of Who fandom for a few years, but I'll give it a go!

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't need to be Who - I might make my Dad write something about how they got the boating stuff wrong in "Jaws". :-)

Suggestions

1) stats for the 8th Doctor (or others) (companions?) in various rpg systems. Would need an overview description of each of them. I have the stats from the Time Lord system for Drs 1-7

2) Overview and links for the various Dr Who RPGs out there and conversion notes to d20 and GURPs

3) Something specific RPG wise based on one or more of your books. Would need some suggestions for this. Are there any races / technologies / interesting planets I could draw on and put stats and notes for that you would be comfortable with me doing?

I can help with conversion to and distribution of PDF via rpgnow if there is sufficient rpg quantity to warrant it's distribution on that site. The website takes 25% of sales, but hits 500-600 regular customers and 10 times that number of irregular customers.

*thinking hat* The main buyers for this thing will be Who fans rather than roleplayers, so your bit needs to be accessible to non-roleplayers. Could you do a comparison of the different Who RPGs, accessible to non-roleplayers but also of interest to roleplayers? A case study (rather than an overview) would also be appropriate for this word length - an amusingly silly rule, a bit of roleplaying history, the sort of brief, amusing/interesting piece that the Big Issue has that you can read on the train.

*nods* Research time! Will get back to you.

What find of ficus are you looking for for the fanzine?

I assume it has to be Dr Who related?

I may be able to whip up some filk, but I'll have to rely on the [livejournal.com profile] jesusandrew for Who cred...

Let me know if this would be of interest.

Catherine

Doesn't need to be Who - just accessible to Who fans. Any reasonably familiar TV show / movie / books will do!

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Anything accessible to Who fans would be OK - short non-fiction or art about any familiar show / movie / books etc. I might do that thing on contraception in "The Good Life" which I've long been meaning to write. :-)

[identity profile] angriest.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I shall do my best, writing a short non-fiction piece.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Brilliant!! Need it by next Friday. Cheers!

[identity profile] gdwessel.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 02:10 am (UTC)(link)

I'm trying to think of something incorporating "Wave of Mutilation" by the Pixies for you...

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
The mind boggles.

[identity profile] motiveforce.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
emailed a quick draft.

[identity profile] gdwessel.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 03:20 am (UTC)(link)

Hey, if it means anything, the Frank Miller 9/11 piece is on my mind too. Again.

I wonder if we're going to see 3 separate trades from DC/Dark Horse/indies this time as well.

[identity profile] kiri-l.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds interesting. =) You'll have to tell me about that sometime.

I have a drabble type thing your welcome to use. I don't have much else that's who related (well not that I have access to - it's all back east yet)

If your interested in non-who stuff do let me know.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, non-Who would be fine! What've you got in mind?

[identity profile] drox.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Who could write or draw something within the next week?

You got room for another pic? I could try to come up with something camera-ready and quick.

Or you could have my cyborg avenging angel ink drawing. It's not who but it is SF, and it's camera-ready.

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oooo lemme see it! Can you do a 300 dpi scan and email it to korman@spamcop.net? (Anything additional you can cook up would be great too!)

[identity profile] dark-pheonix.livejournal.com 2005-01-01 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Half A4 page eighth Doctor coming up! Did you want it smoothly shaded, simple light'n'dark contrast shading, toned in or just linework? Which would be the best for photocopying etc?

Also, how can I get a copy of the finished thingy?

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2005-01-01 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
As long as it's in ink and not pencil, it should be fine! I have a more accurate art sizing now - 8.5 cm wide by 6.5 cm high, or same width and twice that height. (The size isn't crucial but should give you an idea.) I will of course be mailing out contributors' copies!
