Tim will eat anything

He just ate a piece of dried durian while we were watching Kimba the White Lion. I wouldn't let him have any more in case it's not good for pussy cat insides. You might have imagined the famous stench of the fruit would have driven him away, but he was all over me like a rash.

Yer watching Jungle Taitei?! COOL!

Actually it kind of sucks; I wonder if I can get my hands on the original version, which is probably better.

SOmething by Tezuka that "sucks?!" BLASPHEMY!

What version are you watching then??

I'm getting used to the choppy editing. The cheapness of the animation is annoying, but you just adjust to it. The overdubbing's pretty bad, though, and everything's been toned down: Kimba says his human friend is "resting" by the well, but we all know his friend is being picked clean by vultures by the well. After watching Gatchaman - much more violent than Beetle of the Plants and so much more Japanese - I'm aware that some of the Kimba story may be radically different from the original!

It could be the version that was played on the Family Channel (the old Pat Robertson owned network -- they also used to play Biblical anime), called "Leo the Lion," unless you actually managed to get ahold of the stuff NBC played back in the day.

Right before I lost cable, my On Demand had some anime, and there were a couple episodes of Tezuka's Black Jack on there, and leik whoa

I forgot to actually answer your question! It's the NBC version, with Billie Lou West doing the voice. "Kimba" has just been released as a DVD boxed set here in Oz, where it was a staple of kids' TV in the seventies - I bought the first disc. (I've seen "Leo the Lion", which sucked worse.)

(You want? Can you play PAL Region 4 stuff?)

I don't think I can play PAL Region 4 :-(

And oddly enough, I knew what Jungle Taitei was before "Kimba" or "Leo the Lion" passed my way, and I was in disbelief at the time. :-)

(Leo was AWFUL!)

As far as Gatchaman, well, holy shit, yeah, it was a BIT different from Battle of the Planets!

I think I've done enough Tezuka!geeking for this post ;-)
