Am attempting to watch the 1989 Around The World With Eighty Days with Pierce Brosnan and Eric Idle. (I mean they're in it, not that they're sharing the sofa with me, cats, rubbish etc). IT IS TEH SUXX0R ZOMG. Brosnan is perfect casting as Fogg as neither one ever displays any form of facial expression but OMG NOTHING IS HAPPENING. The whole point of the story is the desperate haste and this miniseries is all about DAWDLING. Even Mr Brosnan's awesome posture (and it is awesome) is not enough to hold my interest.

(French writer; English character, Irish actor; French character, English actor. It's like The Moonbase, or any of those futuristic stories made in the sixties which are International because they have a French guy and a Scottish guy or something.)

I recall liking this when I saw it, but that was, admittedly, in 1989 and I still didn't quite have all my critical faculties developed ;-)

I dunno, though. As I recall, the book starts off being about Fogg being inhumanly efficient and, one or two minor set-backs aside, the desperate haste doesn't really kick in until somewhere around Omaha.

English character, Irish actor; French character, English actor.

Still, it's a step up from English character/English actor; French character/Chinese actor; Indian character/Belgian actor. Isn't it?

Jackie Chan can only be an improvement over Eric Idle. (If nothing else I expect him to have more of Passpartout's goofy vigour.)

I still love it. It was very important to me as a senior in high school (when my Eric Idle crush was at its peak). And I enjoyed watching the DVD when I got it several years later. Then again, I'm easily entertained by eye candy. :-)

(Bah! I don't have any Eric Idle icons. Need to work on that...)

I haven't watched that in AGES (the tapes are sitting on my bottom shelf as I type this), and it's one of the very first thigns I want to convert from video to DVD once I get a new toy what does that. Just becasue I ♥ Brosnan as Fogg like whoa. Up until Michael Praed, Brosnan was the only actor who'd ever made me think of Fogg as sexy. (As bad as SAoJV was, I loved Praed as Fogg just becasue he was such an unapologetic bastard most of the time, and I found that fun).

...I'm now picturing "Muppets Around The World In 80 Days", with Fozzie as Passepartout, and Kermit as Phileas Frog...
