True, a good listener does try to do that, but the burden of speaking clearly still must remain on the speaker.
No matter what preconceptions you divest, if I write a sentence using familiar words to mean totally unfamiliar things, the meaning will not reliably be transmitted. If a speaker is concerned with being understood, the language should be agreed upon beforehand (that's why jargon is okay...)
