Now I'm watching Brokeback Mountain, at long last. I can't make out anything either of the young men are saying; for all I know they're discussing fellatio or horticulture. Wyoming is certainly very pretty.

ETA: I've said this before, but having spent long months separated from my beloved, I can't think of anything sadder than the fact that people are still separated, and not by things as trivial as oceans.

Heh. Turn on subtitling?

I'm so tempted.

fellatio or horticulture

you mean they're not the same thing!!! they lied!

oh, and it can't be Wyoming - as that local said after the movie came out "There ain't no gay cowboys in Wyoming"

oh how we laughed...

I do that a lot, mainly when it's quite late at night and I keep the sound low in respect for those sleeping nearby.

I have never seen Brokeback Mountain, as the other half won't let me watch it while he's in the house, as he doesn't believe in gay cowboys. Cowgirls, yes. But cowboys: no.

Also: it seems to just be about gay cowboys and a touch depressing, so I haven't really been in the mood. For months. And I think Jake whatshisface looks a bit simple.

Except for the fact that it's about two guys, it's surprisingly ungay. In fact, snip about thirty seconds total and it'd be G rated for fuxake. But depressing, oh yeah, in a Romeo and Juliet way.

"They're so pretty, aren't they?" commented a colleague as I borrowed this. I hope the film has perverted many unsuspecting women to the world of SLASH.

I DON'T THINK THEY ARE PARTICULARLY PRETTY. Gyllenhaal or whatever his name is looks a bit special needs, and the other one whose name I've completely forgotten always looks like he's smelled something funny.

They're not my cup of tea (but I protest on behalf of my countryman).

[identity profile] drhoz.livejournal.com 2006-12-21 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i know. I didn't say it was a very happy laugh

For the most part, Wyoming was played by the Canadian province of Alberta.

Well, it was filmed in B.C.

Oops, I said B.C. up above. At least I got the country right.

'tis the look of all cowboys: 'tis the perma-squint. happens when you spend a lot of time outdoors in bright weather squinting into the sun and your face freezes that way (seriously).

sad and depressing, yes, and far too real. it's hard enough to live in an emotionally stunted culture, but add something like that into the mix...

for heartbreaking characters, though, it's hard to beat chris cooper in american beauty.

If you've ever seen The Fast Show, then Heath Ledger's performance is suddenly and utterly ruined by its creepy resemblance to Ted the groundsman.

They don't really say too much for quite a bit of the movie...

A friend says that internalizing and repressing your urges makes you talk funny.

He was at a loss to explain either Philadelphia or Australia. :)

This might explain why they're always looking at their shoes, which makes them automatically look like emo romantic LJ icons.

Don't worry, the less than pretty are welcomed by my People, too.

Wyoming is very pretty. Not a lot of gay men here; at least, not openly gay men. But even where I live, in a tiny Wyoming town in the middle of nowhere, town, there are three that I know of, counting myself. The town has probably around 7,000 residents.

I have yet to run into any homophobia here, personally, but it does exist.

It's not stark here; it's not empty, either. It's just full of life you're not used to looking at.
