I must admit, when you take a few steps back from the world, the sheer quantity of women-hate is breathtaking.

Thank you for linking that. I was driven to act.

These days, I hypothesize that it's humanity's general bad attitude of 'atropism' that drives historical misogyny - a resentment at being put in such a discomforting 'life' situation , and a lashing out and 'punishing' of those who are seen as most responsible for having 'put us here'. *shrug*

Even as 'instinct' won't let us stop carrying on...

Joss Whedon gets what I got during Strange Days.

...squicked? (seriously, that rape scene was possibly the most offensive bit of film i've ever seen)

and thank you indeed for linking to that. *is astounded to see a guy put forth the 'womb envy' theory (which i've had since college, too) as the cause of so many different cultures' inherent misogyny*

My own theory: the bitches make us get hard-ons, then won't give us the fucks we want. Bitches.

Maybe I'm missing a bit of cultural sensitivity here, but isn't that the whole philosophy behind the burqa?

[identity profile] purplepooka.livejournal.com 2007-05-21 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Every culture has its version of the Burkha, even if it's only "She asked for it, wearing that skirt".

[identity profile] kateorman.livejournal.com 2007-05-22 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
And the whole philosophy behind "but your honour, she was wearing a miniskirt".

Yup, true...

that too. :)

i've known a lot of gay misogynists as well, though, so i think it goes a bit deeper than just sex...there seems to be a psychological dependence on women (the 'powerful mother' figure) in our species in general, and our culture in particular - ie, men depend on women for sex, and care, and nurturing, and a million other little things that they've been taught they can't get from or give to each other - and there's that freudian (i think) theory that says you end up hating whatever you're dependent on.

but the hard-ons too, yes. that one stands out the loudest. so to speak.
