From the Sydney Morning Herald: Raining cats and dogs as crisis hits

If you're in New South Wales, there's never been a better time to adopt a cat or dog. High rents are forcing owners to surrender - or abandon - their pets, and there's an especially bad "kitten season" right now. The Cat Protection Society (in Enmore) has been deluged, the RSPCA is has run out of room. (Their shelter at Yagoona in Sydney is open until 6 pm on Saturdays.)

(I so badly want to run out right now and adopt at least one more cat, but there are so many sensible reasons not to. Maybe we could get a horrible old one that's not going to last long anyway? Actually, seriously, I wonder if we could temporarily foster a kitten, or if Frank and Tim would eat it?)

ETA: You may be able to get discount desexing from the RSPCA (or another organisation) - check out their info.

Kittens tend to get a lot of leeway with older cats, mostly because they're small and less threatening. We've managed to successfully integrate Zinda in with our older two, though you will have to deal with a bit of territory dispute and the Hissing Olympics for a few weeks while the heirarchy is established. It's not that bad, really.

I'm never gonna convince Jon of this, but Frank and Tim should be GAY PARENTS so much!!!

THEY SO SHOULD

Also, opposite sex cats tend to get along better. So if you get a girl, they may feel less bothered by that idea than another male.
