Have you ever heard the THX sound (the audience listening)? It's kind of like that, only a shorter blast of sound.

Holy crud. I've had that exploding head thing once or twice, too -- mostly in my teens, when I was really, really stressed. Jeez. I had no idea it was common enough to have a name. You learn something new every day on LJ!

Hm. The mention of eustachian tubes is interesting. I've always been able to "pop" them voluntarily -- wonder if that's somehow connected? Or not . . .
