Debunking The Sarah Palin Rape Kit "Debunkers" (ta, [livejournal.com profile] stephen_dedman!)

Chuppah chaps seal union in same-sex first

Court Rules That Anti-Trans Discrimination Is Sex Discrimination: "...Diane Schroer, a highly qualified special forces veteran who was offered a position at the Library of Congress as a terrorism research analyst. The Library withdrew the job offer when Schroer informed them that she was in the process of changing sex." (Bigotry wastes resources. The worst example I ever heard was a lost child being left to die in the Australian bush because his father wouldn't let a blacktracker onto the property.)

Judge rules Florida gay adoption ban unconstitutional. (Bigotry. Wastes. Resources.)

Eating disorders on the rise in Australian boys: "Australia's obesity epidemic is being blamed for a sharp rise in the number of boys and men developing anorexia as more teens get bullied for being overweight and become confused about healthy food guidelines."

Re: the "debunking" - I'm not sure what country Jezebel is from, and I don't much care to figure it out, but in the US it isn't legal for a health insurer to drop someone for filing a claim (c.f. COBRA). It IS legal for auto insurers to do that, and that may contribute to the confusion.

In addition, Jezebel is conflating actions of several actors, and challenging the assertions of people who are in a better position to know fact than s/he does. (c.f. the argument with T. Gentile - Gentile is making an administrative point, and Jezebel challenges whether that SHOULD be true, rather than whether it IS true).

I think that whole line of reasoning is a red herring. If you (well, I guess by "you" I mean "US Citizens who read your blog") want to vote against McCain/Palin, there's plenty of reasons to do so based on stated positions without attempting to read malice into places where it likely wasn't. Heck, the editor of the NRO thinks Gov. Palin should withdraw (http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MDZiMDhjYTU1NmI5Y2MwZjg2MWNiMWMyYTUxZDkwNTE=). I disagree with her assessment, but there you have it.

The Jezebel blog makes exactly this point (para beginning "Does it mean that Palin hates rape victims, blames them for their assaults, etc.? No."). Palin isn't under scrutiny over this because it's a conveniently emotional issue, but because if the Republicans hope she will attract women voters, then her record on issues affecting women's lives and health is extremely relevant.
