Strange Flesh chapter 5

4900 words and I think I need to stop and ponder a couple of conversations so that they're not just exposition dumps. But otherwise, chapter 5 is done. Which is good, because chapter 1 has to parallel it in a number of scenes, so now I can go back and write that sucker. For certain values of "now" meaning "next week if I'm still alive".

They drink hemp tea on the planet where the story's mostly set. I actually tried to order some hemp and fruit tea from the UK to find out what it tastes like, but Quarantine picked it up. The hemp wasn't a problem - the raspberry leaves were!

immediately I thought how much fun it would be if every time someone had a conversation in this novel, a fight broke out.

Impractical, and silly, but it made me laugh inside.

Hemp tea would taste pretty much like any other green leaf infusion, with very little psychoactive affect. That said, I quite like the smell of the leaves.

How bizarre! In the US I'm pretty certain it would be the other way around - raspberry leaf tea (essential at certain times of year!) is available from health-food stores, but anything associated with "hemp" would probably get snapped up by the drug-soldiers.

You mean they're all... (wait for it)... running on hemp-tea! [G,D&RVVF]
