We just re-watched Utopia / Sound of Drums / Last of the Time Lords. They're even better than I remembered. The structure is better than I remembered, Martha is better than I remembered. And so help me gods, I'M IN LOVE WITH TINKERBELL JEBUS. <3 <3 <3

Holy coincidence, Batman -- Tod and I watched those last night also!

I always liked those. I find if I go back and watch them again, I focus on the powerful character stuff rather than the action stuff, such as the Doctor and Jack while Jack is in the radiation room, the Doctor and the Master oozing slash vibes via Martha's cellphone, the Doctor explaining what it was like on Gallifrey (although this is prolly more due to the soundtrack), and the alleged-yet-again death of the Master.

(And I never had a problem with Tinkerbell Jebus.)

Martha and Jack's "You too, huh?" moment. <3

So glad to hear others feel this way...

One can say what they want about RTD's writing... if they dislike it, I'll disagree but everybody's entitled to their opinion. However, when it comes to story structure and such, he's pretty genius. He makes it look effortless, when it is anything but. Every time I watch his series finales, I'm amazed how the pieces all fall together. Some people dismiss it because he makes it seem so easy, and they confuse that with simple, and it sure isn't.

There aren't plot holes, nor a Deus Ex Machina - it's just that some of the exposition gets lost in the Doctor's rapid-fire delivery, especially in Sound of Drums. Those eps are packed!

Oh Kate, I *heart* you!

What a pleasure to rewatch them free from fandom qua fandom's bitterness.

I even like the lol!Gnome (aka Dobby!Doctor). It fits the story perfectly: it's a humiliating mockery of the Doctor, one of the Master's jokes at his expense. And, as Lloyd pointed out to me, it's also this:

The intense contrast with the Doctor's beauty as he remakes himself only makes him, well, more beautiful. I teared up.

yup, I still dig it too.
