Ull-o

Strangely unmoved by the casting of Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. Is it the suspected return of depression? Has fandom and its spite, greed and self-importance worn my enthusiasm away to a nub?

Good grief - BBC Radio 5 has just this minute phoned for an interview. (It's their online service, and the show is "Up All Night", if anyone is able to tune in.)

Knowing that the show is still 10 months away can't help either...

Good point! I don't think it's that, tho... one contributing factor must be that I'm not familiar with Mr. Eccleston at all, so I have no mental picture of what it means for him to be cast. Radio 5 asked if his "gritty" reputation was appropriate for Who, so I burbled something about the Doctor needing toughness to deal with his enemies, but I really had no clue what I was talking about (not a requirement for light-hearted interviews). Anywho, must race out and rent Shallow Grave and 28 Days After etc. I wonder if this will mean another McGann-like crush of cosmic proportions? Hope not, I think I'm too old now to survive it.

I've only seen Eccleston in (bizarrely, his previous RTD collaboration) "The Second Coming". Fantastic first half, boring second half until the last ten minutes which suddenly pick up and are quite good. Gives me a lot of hope for him in the role, though.

Can't really see you getting a crush on him from 28 Days Later (but it's a good flick). The only other one we've seen him in is as Nicole Kidman's hubby in The Others (also good).

But really, I can't see why you're expecting to be overly elated at some guy you've heard of becoming the Doctor...

But time (no, no, mustn't say it) will (twhack) tell (damn)

Nice to know I'm not the only one who could, really, care less...
