Fits of madness

Friend [livejournal.com profile] crack_news. There's not enough pain in your life.

There are Esperanto editions of two Chick tracts: La Eta Fantomo (The Tiny Ghost) and Jen Via Tuta Vivo (Behold Your Whole Life, ie "This Is Your Life!"). Esperanto being what it is, I can read them without difficulty after about three and a half lessons. Try it for yourself: Jesuo diris, "Mi estas la vojo kaj la vero kaj la vivo." (This is all your fault, [livejournal.com profile] ashamel.) Why do the kids pray by prostrating themselves and covering their faces? They look as though they're ducking and covering.

ETA: Jon asked if there were any in Klingon. Not yet.

They've even got a tract in Mongolian, which is the only script that is written vertically from left to right. Besides Tolkien's Sarati script.

Wait - you mean *sideways*?

[identity profile] gooofy.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
what do I mean... I mean it's written from the top to the bottom of the page in a vertical line. But unlike Japanese and Chinese, which can be written top to bottom and right to left, Mongolian is written top to bottom and left to right.

well, I think it's interesting.

Ah, the good Pastor Chick. His pointless and ill-informed attacks against D&D and Halloween are both a source of amusement and a scary reminder that, good grief, people are dumb enough to believe that shit.

As for why the kids pray by hiding their faces from God -- remember that (to these morons, at least) we are supposed to be unworthy scraps of cosmic dust, fit only to prostrate ourselves in abject worship to any old divinity who's into that sort of mindless sucking-up.

I got that it intended awe and respect, but I wondered at the origin of it - I've never seen it except in Chick tracts. (To my mind there's an abyss between Chick's nightmare, faceless sadist God, and the one who sees every sparrow fall.)

A friend of mine called Him 'The big sky bully' :D

Maybe it's related to when Moses wanted to see God, but was only shown his back - I think the reason given was that the glory of God's face would be too much for his frail mortal form.

i can write and speak Klingon

I am extremely impressed by this. I had a crack at it years ago and was scared off by the complexity!

Hell and Satan would present a particular problem.

You know, now I've got a little Esperanto under my belt, other languages look rather less daunting. I may yet return to Klingon. Di helpu mi!

Can't you just plug Kahless in?

nekredeble!
