I pronounce it "Owned." I impressed the heck out of my 12-year-old nephew when I got to use it on him. (It also befuddled my sister.)

[identity profile] i-ate-my-crusts.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"owned"

(although sometimes I used "poned" in an ironic fashion.)

[identity profile] th-esaurus.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sort of like 'pawned'

[identity profile] secretive-bus.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pawned." Though I must admit that I rarely, if ever, need to say it during daily life.

[identity profile] gregmce.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A strange combination of "pawned" (because my brain mentally adds in a vowel) and "owned" (knowing what it's supposed to be).

[identity profile] wyldemusick.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Pwoh-ned, usuallyh, except when it's "Fred," which is more often than people realize.

[identity profile] murasaki-1966.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
In what context?

[identity profile] trinalin.livejournal.com 2006-05-31 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I pronounce it "owned."

[identity profile] phlegethon-vii.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
'Pawned' or 'owned'.

I have to think about saying 'owned' though coz of the spelling.

I like 'pawned' so much better though coz when you think about it, it kinda means the same thing, ie. being a pawn makes you somebody's bitch :p

[identity profile] capriuni.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I pronounce it "Pawned," too, 'cause until recently, I thought that's what it was supposed to be: Either that someone had so bested you that they reduced you to the status of a chess pawn, or that they had taken you to a pawn shop and sold you...

[identity profile] vindaloo-vixen.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I confess, though, I generally say it as little as possible...

[identity profile] renn.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I pronounce it "prawned" because I am old and stupid.

I do actually pronounce it "owned" when I have time to think about it, but "pooned" is the pronunciation that pops into my head immediately on seeing it.

[identity profile] fizzixrat.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I *don't* pronounce it. 'Tis a silly word.

[identity profile] drox.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
To tell you the truth I don't believe I've ever actually pronounced "pwned" in my life. It's one of those words that, for me anyway, exists only in its typed form.

A bit like "133t", although everybody knows that's pronounced "fred" "leet".

I chose "poned" on the poll though, because if for some reason I needed to speak the word, I'd probably say "poned". That's what first sprang to mind, and to me it best captures the intended meaning of "owned", while retaining the "p" to denote netspeak.

I've never had to actually pronounce OMGWTFBBQ!!!111! either. No clue what that would sound like.

[identity profile] phlegethon-vii.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
What's the BBQ bit for??

Never understood that for I is teh lame.

[identity profile] drox.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
What's the BBQ bit for??

Emphasis, i think.

[identity profile] thegameiam.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I say "owned"

[identity profile] southerndave.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I pronounce it "bloody keyboard, now where's the delete key?"

[identity profile] pbristow.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Somewhere between "poned" and "pound". And with a silly exagerated "p". =:o}

[identity profile] gdwessel.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Like "owned" with a "p" at the beginning.

Seems to be the acceptable pronunciation round my neck of the woods.

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
owned or porned depending on my mood.

[identity profile] purplepooka.livejournal.com 2006-06-01 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The way Sandy Toksvig pronounces "pound" ("poond"), because I like the sound of it.

[identity profile] gooofy.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to say "owned", but you know what... I don't think it's true to say that I ever say this word. I only write it.

[identity profile] browneyedgirl65.livejournal.com 2006-06-02 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You have WAY too many geeks here.

"Owned"

...right up there with newsfroups and cow-orkers. Next.
