Achilles

It's nice to have your name remembered, I suppose,
But what you don't see is that I'm immortal too.
Kingdoms rise and fall,
But I'm still here:
A woman quietly washing a plate.
Where's Troy now?
Long eaten by my mother, the earth.

At least the tag's pretty accurate there, babe.

*hides*

I like the bit about the plate, it brings the whole thing down to a more human level. A poetic Rose Tyler, if you will.

I need more info on what sort of plate, though.

To be honest, it was actually the plastic lid of the kitchen rubbish bin.

"the plastic lid of the kitchen rubbish bin" would have worked well there, I think. And it would have added a certain rhythmic je ne sais quoi.

Everyone's a critic, eh?

a certain rhythmic je ne sais quoi

Or a "whatsis", as Bertie Wooster might put it.

There's a fantasy novel by Tom Holt in which the Holy Grail is revealed to be a dish from the Last Supper that Jesus miraculously transformed into tupperware. Opinion is divided on whether he did it to thank their hostess for the supper, or to punish her (she spends the rest of her life hiding it to avoid awkward questions) for making him and his mates stay behind and do the washing up.

Why does LiveJournal keep doing these strange things to me?

I just went back and checked my history to make sure I'm not going mad, but I really did click "reply to this". LiveJournal really hates me lately.

It's doing that misplace-the-comment thing A LOT.

Alright then: if poetry is legit. I'll go seasonal.

God rest ye merry pagan folk,
let nothing you dismay.
Remember there's no evidence
there was a Christmas Day.
When Christ was born is just not known,
no matter what they say.
Glad tidings of logic and fact; logic and fact.
Glad tidings and logic and fact.

There was no star of Bethlehem,
there was no angel song.
There could have been no wise men
for the journey was too long.
The stories in the bible
are historically wrong.
Glad tidings of logic and fact; logic and fact.
Glad tidings and logic and fact.

Much of your Christmas customs
come from Persia and Greece,
from solstice celebrations
of the ancient Middle East.
We know this so-called "holy day"
is but a pagan feast!
Glad tidings of logic and fact; logic and fact.
Glad tidings and logic and fact.
