Meanwhile in DC

Trip running smoothly, despite the inevitable illness. Here are a couple of post-election analyses from the Washington Post you may enjoy. It's so easy to get the impression that everyone right of centre in the US is a raving loon, but of course the nutters and extremists are only the loudest voices. The first article argues that the power concentrated in "Big Corporations" is as dangerous as "Big Government"; the second sympathetically profiles a dismayed and puzzled Romney supporter. She's not stupid; she doesn't doesn't recognise that America is not a monoculture.

The GOP has lost its way. Here’s how it can return to its roots.

GOP’s Red America forced to rethink what it knows about the country

(For puzzled Australians, the GOP is the Republican Party.)

If it helps, I read that "GOP" stands for "Grand Old Party".

Helped by the US center of politics being currently so far to the right of the Australian centre. Although we're still heading that way too, so presumably it'll start looking normal to us soon.

Wow. Thanks for that. How do I get to see them? Oh, I'm a librarian. I can find out.
