Fandom: shut up or I'll kill you

My gods, I was right to take a step back from fandom. In rummaging through the 100+ links I'd bookmarked for possible posting here, I found one posting after another complaining that the show, the Doctor, and the companion did not fill the fan's personal requirements. Is this an unfortunate side-effect of our active engagement with the text, or is it a classic example of the "powerless elite" shooting their mouths off? Egad!
