Today I borrowed Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour by anthropologist Kate Fox. It is hysterical. Numerous fannish applications, too. The masculine game of "Mine's Better Than Yours" is the entire basis of Top Gear. What it reminds me of most of all, though, is the utter, awkward Englishness captured in Douglas Adams' fiction.
