I am grumpy with the Church's massive donations of money AND with obscuring their role in the whole thing. But for all my grouchiness (and I'll still be turning their damn missionaries away at my door), I have to admit that at 2% of the population (and blacks at 6.2% of CA's) the message is patently clear: the No on 8 campaign fell flat on its face and failed to reach the basic population in CA. I'd say we pretty much kerry-edward'ed it. We ran a reactive campaign and let them frame the issues the way they wanted.
It's in the courts now, but honestly, all civil rights have been decided in the courts so far, not held up to a vote. So the groundwork we need to do is get people to accept the court decision (assuming they do the right thing, of course) or work on revising things again, taking copious notes from the Obama campaign strategies...
That said, I'm happy to see the protests in front of the LA Temple. The Church should at least be honest about their lobbying :-P.
