There is a distinct and very manipulative method some in the Right have used, politicians included, to fan outrage amongst their base. It's a tool that's been effective for some time, and really appeals to the more thuggish elements. It's building to quite frightening levels in some places, and of course, nobody will accept responsibility for inciting the violent discourse that happens as a result, and even fewer still among them are uttering a word that their constituents might want to dial it back a notch; their silence is their ongoing consent. It's pretty fucking shameful.
