lolarious article about cat strollers. "'I originally bought them a leash and trained them at home with it but they kept lying down.'" "Asked if she was planning to have a child, Ms Marino said: "'As you can see, we need one.'"

You can tell the good Captain is offworld: Jack has been knocked off the top spot for babies' names.

Stop watching Doctor Who, you idiot! Now this is a very interesting blog post (some thoughtful comments, too). I read a lot of honest, intelligent criticisms online, but it's hard to understand why people keep watchin' and kvetchin' if they're getting nothing but disappointment. Or are they still enjoying some aspects but not talking about them? Or is it the social glue of shared disapproval? It's a puzzle.

Croakers is an essay from the Nation about Michael Jackson and William S. Burroughs.

And finally:

I have a short story in the latest Torchwood magazine! Bwee!

Shame I've just had a bottle of wine in the space of an hour. Otherwise I could say coherently that Lee Harris is clearly a wise person indeed, and that the idea of a Kate Orman Torchwood story makes me giddy with anticipation, and that the idea of cat strollers is greatly amusing. But our cat Spencer was a rescue pet, abandoned outside by his previous owners in a Canadian winter, and he has never even tried to go outside, and also Laura says I should step away from the keyboard now. So maybe next time.

If Timbo doesn't get off my desk right now and quit trying to steal my Weet Bix, it will be THE END OF TIM.

I haven't been writing about televised Doctor Who lately, just reviewing some of the old novels I've gone back and reread, but I'm one of the less satisfied viewers. I keep watching partly because I get just enough good stuff to keep me hoping for more--most recently I was blown away by "Midnight" and "Turn Left." It's also because the series has gone through rough patches before--some of them years long--and bounced back. And "periodic rough patches" is part of my internal model for Doctor Who, because most of them had come and gone before I was a fan, and because I started with the Graham Williams era, and my reaction even at age 12 was more or less along the lines of "This show has a few problems... but it's still very interesting..."

I will have to find out where I can buy Torchwood magazine.

Yah, this is the thing - I can understand why someone who's unsatisfied would keep watching, just not someone who's consistently disgusted! :D

Congrats! I was just talking with some friends about how much we wanted to see some Torchwood written by you. :-)

Thank you for the Stop Watching link. I've been tempted to write that rant more than once.

Now I regret allowing my subscription to Torchwood Magazine expire. But it was wickedly expensive.... anyway, congratulations! Is that the cover of the actual issue that the story appears within?

I must admit that I was constantly put off by Torchwood and did stop watching. But even though Doctor Who bugs me sometimes, it's still terribly fun.
