In more positive buying-crap-off-the-net news, the DVDs of Return to River Cottage and the TVM arrived this morning. I wished them to be on the doorstep and they were.

Genesis 20

Twenty chapters! Wow! I am a Bible scholar. I've even borrowed a book called Yahweh and the Gods of Canaan to prove it. Anywho, here's today's reading.

- Must look up all these place names and see if it's known where they are. Some are obvious and familiar, some aren't but are certainly real places; we know there was a real Akkad / Agade, but no-one's ever found it. Kadesh is an interesting name - a sacred place? To the folks writing all this down, were the place names familiar, or had some already passed into myth? Or is that even a meaningful distinction when you don't have maps and planes?

- Good heavens, Abraham's up to his pimping ways again. This time God warns the unknowing John and lets him off. (Could these be two different version of the same story? Chapter 13 resembles a retcon.)

- Sarah appears to be Abraham's half-sister. Someone needs to inform Mr Prager and Ms Antonelli.

- What's the meaning of chapter 16?

Valuing Life

This is probably old news to my US readers, but have a read of Planned Parenthood's press release on Bush advisor Karen Hughes comparing pro-choice activists to terrorists. The PPFA are too dignified to laugh in Hughes' face at the suggestion that "we value every life". Making war is not identical to making terror but by God the victims are just as dead.
