Quick! Go look at the Sydney Morning Herald's goofy photos of politicians before they take it down. Includes Democrat Senator Andrew Bartlett bungee jumping and Mr Howard being hugged by a man dressed as a sheep.

Now watching High Fidelity. All Doctor Who fans should see this. >:-)

ETA: Todd Louiso is even more like Andrew from Buffy in this than Mike White was in School of Rock. Also, I spotted the cover of King Crimson's Discipline (an album introduced to me by [livejournal.com profile] shellshear).

ETA: Embarrassingly, I didn'i spot the instrumental break from Jacob's Ladder, but this may be because Jack Black was singing it.

With an annual budget of $3.9 billion (€3.2 billion) -- a sum which is spent on armaments and defense projects globally in just two days -- enough condoms could be supplied to cover the world need. Bähr said the money would go a long way in preventing 23 million unwanted births, 22 million abortions and 142,000 post-pregnancy deaths.

- Population Management Suffers Neglect, DW Radio, 15 September 2004

Amongst the reasons this money is not spent on saving lives and preventing sickness, poverty, and misery: the Vatican, and the abstinence-only stance of the US. And, of course, the desperate need for funds for nuclear weapons, invasions, etc. I'm trying to think of a more realistic version of the Work harder - millions on welfare depend on you! bumper sticker wrt the US defence budget.

Those of you who recall my tussle with Pirate Jenny may be surprised to learn that I reported a bootleg CD to Ebay, and a few days later they took the auction down. This may be because the listing confessed the CD was a home-made compilation. Which is honest. In a way. (It annoyed me no end to get a Favorite Search email for a rare item I covet, only to discover someone flogging their dubious homemade junk.)

I don't want to go on about grammar, usage, or punctuation over in [livejournal.com profile] greennotebook, but these are amusing in a Column 8 way:
