Just learned of the tsunami that's devastated Australia's south-east Asian neighbours. My aunt and uncle are in Phuket; we're waiting for news.

Aid agencies will need funds fast to manage the emergency and save lives - you can donate to CARE Australia online (Australians can use their toll-free hotline, 1800 020 046.) Thanks folks.

ETA: Australians concerned about loved ones can call the DFAT hotline on 1800 00 22 14.

Good news for us - my aunt and uncle have reported in and are safe and well. Apparently, they were on a tourist bus heading inland into the mountains when the tsunami struck. They - and we - are extremely lucky. My heart goes out to the families still waiting to hear, and those across this corner of the globe who've already had bad news.

Donate to provide provide safe water and other crucial supplies to victims of the earthquake at CARE Australia or the American Red Cross (or the Red Cross in your country, such as the British Red Cross and Canadian Red Cross). Thanks everyone!

ETA: In Australia, Oxfam and Unicef are also on the ball.
