Jun. 9th, 2005 09:43 pmI did something I've never done in my life before: I went on a business trip. In fact, I flew down to Melbourne this morning, and flew back this evening. I wish I'd had a chance to phone a few people or something, but it was a non-stop dash from the airport to the offices of McPherson Touring, who are putting on the Inside the TARDIS stage show, and back again.
maruten asked what I'm actually doing for the show. As the grandly titled Creative Consultant, I'm helping to select clips to show, writing material for the program book, and generally providing an embarrassing level of expertise (eg how to pronounce "Rassilon").
The flights were good - I had a Xanax before each, but also was able to control my anxiety with the various techniques I've learned over the years. I found a Buddhist trick particularly handy: just welcoming and observing the fear, feeling the shape of it in my body, rather than panicking because I was panicking. :-) There'll be more trips involved in helping the guys organising the show, so more chances to continue diminishing my once-crippling fear of flying. (Although I think the fervent prayer will probably continue. :-)
