I wasn't going to making more postings about the doctor who bullied his overweight patient, but then I found this:

“Let’s face it, if your husband were to die tomorrow, who would want you? Well, men might want you, but not the types you want to want you. Might even be a black guy.

That's what he said, according to the patient's complaint, and that was the reason she complained - not because he told her she was too fat. Bennett has not denied making the remark; he's defended it. No wonder the NH Board of Medicine didn't consider a confidential letter an adequate response.

ETA: Bennett has responded to the news story by denying he made the exact remark but also continuing to defend it, including a groan-inducing invocation of the First Amendment. He also claims he knew nothing about the racial aspect until the news came out, but his 17 June letter to the NH AG contradicts this. Basically, he really needs to stop shooting off his mouth.

Jon and I were catapulted from bed last night by a hideous hissing-growling-grunting-snoring noise, which after a panicked search of the premises was discovered to be coming from somewhere on the roof near the front door. By the time I went out, armed only with a dressing gown and a torch, the perpetrator had vanished. A little Googling turned up this description:

Look, have you ever heard an Australian possum? They sound evil! They look cute, granted, but possums sound like pissed-off-cynical-resurrected-satanic-spirits.

... confirming my initial diagnosis.
