Seeing Wallace and Gromit last night is going to make seeing Goblet of Fire next month rather weird. W&G is set in the same timeless England, and has lycanthropy (well, sort of), and Ralph Fiennes as the baddie.

shellshear came up with a clever variation on the "straw man" fallacy: just because people are coming up with really bad arguments for a position doesn't automatically mean that position is false.

Nonetheless, how disappointing to discover that Intelligent Design proponents are being caught out in lies - for example, about transitional fossils. Caught out in court, in Pennsylvania, where parents have brought a suit challenging the teaching of ID in schools.

It's one thing to argue that children ought to be taught an alternative theory; it's another thing to teach them lies.
