Tragic MOPPeT

Remember the "mauve alert" in The Empty Child - mauve being the universal colour for an emergency? I bet the actual alert colour is somewhere in the spectrum where visible light starts to shade into ultraviolet, that is, "light" which can damage living tissue. Humans call the colour "mauve" because to them it appears pale purple - that is, we can't clearly see the actual colour.

Fic recs

I've been putting fic recs in my Memories, under fan fiction. I must sort out a proper category for them.

The EDAs and PDAs have been on hiatus for a couple of years now, and the new series books are (understandably) invitation only. I've gone back to being just another fan - and I'm rather enjoying it. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, or what's going to happen in the upcoming stories. I'm reading fic and squeeing over photos. Gods know we could use the royalties, so I hope we get to write Who books again eventually. But in the meantime, it's like a holiday. It's fun.

Still not dead

I have Type II Diabetes (aka NIDDM), so need regular checks to see if my eyes, feet, and kiddlies are all working OK, as well as checks on my long-term blood glucose control. Well, my eyes and feet are definitely fine, as is my three-month blood sugar average. The results from my urine test were unclear, so we're going to repeat that. There's still too much fat in my diet and therefore in my blood, which may be affecting how my liver works, so I get to have a liver ultrasound to check if it's storing the excess fat. Wheee. (There went my planned post-doctor-visit jam doughnut.)

I'm looking after myself better than I have been for a while, though. I've increased the amount of fruit and veg in my diet a lot. I'm walking to the shops to catch the bus rather than oozing down the hill to the nearby stop, restoring about half an hour of exercise to most days of the week, and doing some work in the garden. As a result, I'm steadily losing weight. I've been gobbling too much takeaway food and too many treats, though, so I have to rein back on those. I also need to test my blood glucose more often, and I may need to increase the amount of Diabex I take with meals.
