Apr. 27th, 2009 02:57 pmHave been obsessively reading the Nee Naw blog (thanks for the pointer,
kelemvor!), written by Suzi Brent, who works for the London Ambulance Service - answering calls, dispatching vehicles, and sometimes accompanying the ambulance crews. All human life is there, from the confronting to the funny; plus you may pick up some tips on what to do, and what not to do, when calling for help.
The comments are always worth reading, too, as emergency workers discuss their own experiences. It's interesting to learn that, as with the Australian 000 system, London ambulances can't be dispatched without entering a street address the computer will accept. In fact, the computer may demand a postcode. Even in a densely populated place like London and its surrounds, people sometimes can't give their location the way the computer wants it, creating difficulties in sending help.
