UNSW is throwing thousands of books into rubbish skips without giving academics or me a chance to rescue them. Guys! Ebay!
Gives me the creeps especially because Macquarie Uni is also culling, although I think the aim there is not to get rid of books but to put them in storage in the new building. Some academics have been doing an Ian Levine on the discards at UNSW, thankfully. And one warns about the demise of my favourite research tool - poking around on the shelves: "A serendipitous discovery is impossible when the book isn't there".
