Dec. 2nd, 2011 02:13 pmHere's a transcript giving the context of Jeremy Clarkson's latest foot-in-mouth attack, this time about the UK's public sector strike. The Top Gear boys, and Jezza in particular, are very capable of saying genuinely nasty things, but having looked at the context, I don't think this is actually one of them. The transcript makes it clear that, for "balance", he is giving two equally ridiculous "opinions", for and against the strike. Importantly, he states explicitly that neither of these are his own views. I can see why people were upset or alarmed, especially if they encountered the remark out of its context, and I think it was right for the Beeb and Clarkson to apologise; but I think it would be hard to make a case that this was an attempt to stir up hatred or violence.
