I'm reading Dennis Wheatley's The Devil Rides Out. I'd thought it was the same vintage as the Hammer movie, ie the sixties, but it turns out to be a cousin to the Fu Manchu novels, in which the smuggest wealthy Anglo-Saxon men imaginable deal out comeuppances to various foreign devils and other undesirable types. However, on the bus I inadvertently mentally cast Douglas and Martin from Cabin Pressure as de Richlieu and Rex. The book's entertainment value shot up about three hundred percent.
