Apr. 10th, 2012 10:48 pmI cannot speak to David Snell's musical work since 1987, but his rejected score for Paradise Towers, included on the DVD, is appalling. It's just a bunch of random noodling around on a keyboard, with next to no relationship to what's happening on the screen. More than anything else it reminds me of the sort of synthesiser music you get in 80s action/SF flicks on MST3K which sounds like it was done by a high school friend of the director. Keff McCulloch's replacement score may be too bright in places, but not only is it music in its own right, it actually enhances the action (and lends interest to some of the duller bits). For a similar comparison, check out Peter Howell's audition piece, which turns a who-cares scene in Horns of Nimon into something actually rather tense and interesting.
