Library woes
Aug. 5th, 2012 10:22 amBoth Macquarie University Library and Sydney Uni's Fisher Library have now moved a ton of material into storage. On the plus side, this means they haven't chucked it out. On the minus side, you need a library card to get at it, which might not be practicable for the amateur researcher. Fortunately, as a former staff member at Macquarie, I'm eligible for a card for a modest fee. I'll have to investigate the possibilities at Fisher - perhaps I can snavel a card because I graduated from there, or because of my Mac U card. We shall see. One thing's for sure - my overwhelming urge to seek out and accumulate information isn't going to diminish any time soon... although recently I have been actually reading some of the books and photocopies filling up the house, rather than just relentlessly gathering more.
ETA: Sinny Yoony graduate's card = $80 for a year, which, let's be honest, is a bargain - they even throw in some off-campus electronic access. OTOH Fisher also offers "community borrowers" cards starting at $40 for three months. Maybe I'll grab one of those and go temporarily insane.
