Strange Flesh, Week 1

This week I've been working on chapters 1 and 2. Neither is complete, though most of the pieces are there. I no longer want to strangle my narrator character, so that's definitely an improvement. It turns out I can salvage a lot more stuff from the previous draft than I realised. Lots of stopping to rearrange material, and because I'm not quite sure what a scene should contain, and I have to go away and think about it for a bit. (Thank gods for action sequences, or I'd never get anything written!) I'm managing to be pretty strict about not fiddling with the worldbuilding - most of which is already done, but it's such a temptation to wander around online looking for planet names or whatever. I'll get the draft done and then go back and add the thrilling details of intergalactic nickel mining later.

I guess my setback is over. Amazing what a bit of rest and the arrival of one's period can do. Thanks to all for your good wishes and I promise to answer your emails shortly. ;)
