Percolated coffee has slightly less caffeine than filter coffee, so that's probably not it. Might be worth not washing the new meds down with an espresso, though!
(BTW, if I haven't already mentioned them, you could do worse than read Spider Robinson's books. The stuff he does to his characters makes the Ship's treatment of the Doctor look downright playful!)
