Today's phylum is the CTENOPHORA. There are something like a hundred and fifty species of Ctenophores, relatives of the Cnidarians (jellyfish etc, with whom they used to be lumped in the Coelenterata), including the Venus' girdle or comb jelly. Unlike jellyfish they don't sting you, they stick to you. IIRC they are the simplest animals to sport a nervous system, and so as a young woman they were my dividing line between animals you could eat and animals you couldn't, leaving me with a delectable selection of sponges and scum.
