When I lived in International House, one of my room mates was a very quiet Hong Kong Chinese girl.
One night I was woken by the sound of her screaming, hysterically, "No! Stop it! Go away!"
My first thought was that she was being attacked by a guy, so I charged out of my room, across our shared lounge room, and banged on her door, asking if she was okay.
Her door opened a crack, and I stepped inside.
She'd been sleeping with her balcony door open (for some reason, they didn't have fly screens, so you either sweltered, or left the entire door open). A possum had come in, found some of her food, and was munching on some bread.
She was on the verge of hysterics. I don't think she'd ever seen a possum before... and in hindsight, they do look a little like giant rats.
Took me about 10 seconds to chase the possum out of her room... and about half an hour to calm her down enough so that I could get back to my own room and go to sleep.
