While destroying privet in the back yard, it occurred to me that there's a second punchline / bit of foreshadowing in the "It's a Small World" thing when the kids first enter the factory. The first and most obvious one is the machine breaking down and destroying the dolls; but Wonka's surprise entrance elaborates on this. As he explains, you can't see the show if you're in the show. The kids don't realise that they're not the audience - they are the show, and Wonka's the audience.
