Date: 2007-05-31 12:26 pm (UTC)"I never bothered reading any but the first of the "New Adverntures of Doctor Who" books published throughout the nineties (and of one of which this was an adaptation) as it seemd that none of them could possibly live up to their self-proclaimed mission of relating stories "too broad and too deep for the small screen". But even having fallen out of love with Doctor Who through much of the nineties (that first NA being pretty much the final nail in teh coffin for me) it was impossible to have even the vaguest of relationships with the world of Doctor Who fandom and not be aware that Paul Cornell's Human Nature was something special (apparently the only other novel that came close to it was one called The Left Handed Hummingbird by Kate Orman). This, while not quite living up to that billing - I mean there it was, on the small screen - was certainly something that was way beyond the capabilities of all but a few of the people who ever made Doctor Who before."
