Just got a boxed set of the first season of Night Court. Heh. Haven't seen it since the eighties, when I started watching it to catch the A-Team trailer in the middle. It's gently funny and charming. The two deadpan straight men, Bull (Richard Moll) and Fielding (John Laroquette) particularly stand out.

ETA a few memories: The show had the first positive representation of a gay character that I'd ever seen - I've never forgotten how the characters took his sexuality totally in their stride. There was also a witch! And Laroquette's impression of the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz, which caused me to have a ten-minute laughing fit, in total silence, as I was watching it in the middle of the night.

The amusing thing is that they pretty much dropped Dan as the sarcastic straight man after this series, as John Laroquette began to carry more and more of the humor (and as the show got even loopier).

I still quote favourite lines. "C'mere. Let me explain the term 'line of fire' to you."

I still chuckle at the Shatner Turbo 2000.

(For the newbies not familiar with it, Wikipedia describes it thus: "An episode #166 of the TV sitcom Night Court, the bald bailiff Bull wins a free toupee, and selects the super-advanced "Shatner Turbo 2000" model, which is virtually indestructible and causes the wearer to immediately become popular with women.")

Ah, Night Court--I had such a crush on Harry Anderson back in the day, both from this and the SNL appearances. (Stupid question: Who was the gay character again? I have no memory of him/her.)

The gay dude was a guest star in one episode - he chats up Fielding, who ends up stuck in a lift with him, and falls hilariously asleep on his shoulder in the way only a nine foot tall comedian can. "Don't just stand there," says the dude to the rest of the cast, "take a photo!"

There's a Moose in Archie Comics, if that's any help.

I don't think I've ever seen any Night Court. What I know Richard Moll from is Batman The Animated Series, in which he played two different recurring characters (one of them, appropriately enough, was Two-Face).
