For anyone who may be curious about my religious beliefs, this transcript of an ABC radio doco, Pagans Among Us may offer some insight, for example, this explanation from Ronald Hutton: "The sources of authority lie very much in themselves. There are traditions in Paganism of how you work, but they don't depend upon sacred texts, they don't depend on the idea that goddesses and gods gave human beings rules and orders. They depend upon sets of rituals that enable those who practice them to get very often a very real sense of direct contact with the divine. Whereas religions of the book have traditionally said, 'this is what you should believe', Paganism today tends to say, 'this is how you can encounter the divine. Now it's up to you to work out what you believe about it.'"

If you listen to this segment of RadioLab's The Good Show, you will hear an explanation of the mathematics of grace.

Oh, Kate Kate Kate, this is only tangentially related but I'm very much grooving on a song lately that reminds me of you. I recced a silly video a while back to a Superchick song that you liked, and I think you'd probably like this Superchick song too.

You may know it already. :)

It's one of those songs that calls me to that inner self connection, to acknowledging that everything sucks *ass* but that it can still be dealt with. Can still be faced. Also it's funky. :D

(thank you for the links; I see myself as being basically theist in believing in *something* but the approach I prefer sounds more pagan than the Christianity I tend to default to)

Hee, fabulous!!! It's a great show. It's Power Rangers and therefore very silly at times, but it's also pretty well written, has some great humour coming from *characters*, and it's post-apocalyptic.

First episode is here http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=power+rangers+rpm+road+to+corinth&aq=f and this person has every single episode afaik. http://www.youtube.com/user/pbbguru

Oh, duh, I'm a moron, I linked you to [livejournal.com profile] scifisentai's awesome tokusatsu women version of this song, not to the RPM version of it. ::laughs::

She used some fabulous clips in this. Are there any in particular you're interested in? I'll then give you some links so you can find out more if you'd like to. :)

That's a very good basic overview of what modern Paganism means. It'll save me a lot of typing the next time someone asks ;-D
(Seriously, thanks.)
