To hang on for years, even decades, would be an enormous feat of determination and endurance. It would be an absolute triumph of hope.

It goes without saying that life here is better than in a refugee camp. It may be difficult, frustrating and confusing at first. But it offers hope and there is very little of that in refugee camps.

Not much hope for refugees and their children indefinitely stuck in detention centres, either.

Or deported to whoever we can pay enough money to take them, no matter that it breaches our obligations to the charter we signed.

I don't think I've ever been so completely disengaged from and disgusted with both major parties.

And I've just read a comment on FB about how we need to "tweak" the national anthem to take out the bit about "for those who come across the seas/we've boundless plains to share".

*sigh*

It would annoy me less if they weren't dead set serious.
