Damn. I mean, not unsurprising (I wasn't actually sure that he hadn't already died and I'd missed it) but still. Damn.
First place I read about sleep deprivation as torture was in The First Circle. About what happened to millions of Russian soldiers who fought with the Allies during WW2 (One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich). About all sorts of things, all at the time happening in a far off mystical place behind an Iron Curtain.
