The possibility that I might be sleep deprived, rather than (as I've been assuming) sedated, kind of changes the whole picture of my life. It's hard waiting to find out. I've actually, coincidentally, been reading a bunch of stuff about sleep deprivation. If I'm experiencing even a hundredth of a percent of what the poor bastards subjected to "sleep management" go through, I promise you, it is torture.

The diagnosis of sleep apneoa and the use of the CPAP machine has made a HUGE differnece to Iain. He used to fall asleep all the time at the drop of a hat, and he was tired and out of sorts when he was awake. Now he is much better. Having said that, we need to get to the gym because keeping the extra weight off helps.

The only downside is that Frank (as the CPAP machine is known) has to go with us on any holidays, excursions or dirty weekends. Luckily, he doesn't need his own seat.

If our Frank accompanied us on dirty weekends, he'd lodge his bulk in inconvenient places about the bed like a peevish chaperone.

Yup - having babies / being pregnant again reminds me just how torturous being forced to wake up and function on little sleep really is :/

I'm sitting here after waking up in the night with ideas to help my mom with mer thyroid meds / afib, and being unable to go back to sleep, about to crash onto my keyboard at 8.15 am. I have the whole day to make it through with a 4 year old in summer term :/

Heaven help me in September when i'm due to pop, and baby makes two :(

Huge sympathies. God knows why the human race hasn't gone extinct.

I think other people are better at dealing with sleep deprivation than i am - i get irrational and can't think and cry a lot and feel drunk/sick.

I'm sure not everyone feels so utterly wretched when they haven't slept...

I had a similar diagnosis a year or so ago, and it was similarly unexpected. But that diagnosis and the (at first, confusing) treatment turned a lot of things around for me.

I hope yours also goes well.
