A few of the ones I didn't end up including in my IBARW posting...

"Nice to meet you, Lieutenant Token. Try not to die or anything."
"Yes sir!"

"... yeah, right."

"Oops! Didn't see that coming."

The babe in the photo behind Carlin? It's his sister. But that's no more dodgy than smoking a cigarillo in a submarine.

Running Moonbase: moments of sheer terror followed by hours of boredom.

Plus, when this show was done, casual smoking was still very common and not considered a big thing.

I think (And I'm not the first) that a submarine is an excellent analogy to a space ship. I always wanted to read a Doctor Who story set on a submarine, but there wasn't one. So I started kinda writing one.

But then, I was distracted by something shiny.

It never really got farther than a basic outline. 7th Doctor and Ace were going to materialize on a nuclear submarine in the near future, the first of its kind, capable of descending deeper in the ocean than any other submarine. An Ancient Evil (Alien consciousness? Some such mental meaney, named Lothar) trapped in the depths of the ocean makes the sub and crew its playthings, and the Doctor must help the crew save themselves from the mental manipulations and the darkest terrors released by Lothar, as well as dealing with the jealousy of the current UNIT Scientific Advisor, who's onboard for the maiden voyage.

The idea came to me after a conversation with a friend of mine who was serving on a nuclear sub for the first time. It's a difficult existence, mentally and physically. He dealt with it by creating the evil sea god Lothar, and he'd blame anything bad that happened on Lothar.

I really wanted to get into the psychological aspects of being contained in such a vessel for unnatural lengths of time, living 18 hour days, never seeing daylight; no contact with the rest of the world. What would happen when all those fears and self-doubts are brought to life? What does a person do when they can't run for their life?

What does Ace do when she's suddenly surrounded by 100 men who haven't seen a woman in seven months?

This was a few years ago. Craig Hinton kindly offered to help me out along the way with advice, read-throughs and critiques. But then he died, and I kinda lost heart.

PS- I always thought it would make a cool audio story.
