It may amuse you to know that I learned the phrase "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" from reading Oliver Butterworth's book The Enormous Egg when I was in primary school. And then had to go find out what it actually meant; it's supposed to be an incomprehensible remark from a scientist overheard by the protagonist.
